EDITORIAL POLICY

"Words crafted to endure, governed by intellectual integrity, human conscience, and artistic freedom."

Last updated: October 2026

1. Our Foundational Mission

Dendra Folio (accessible at https://dendrafolio.com) is an independent publication and digital salon dedicated to slow reading, disciplined inquiry, and the contemplative craft of literature.

We curate and publish works designed to outlive the news cycle: essays that examine root philosophical questions, poetry that honors intimate human truth, and fiction that probes moral and psychological depth.

2. Editorial Independence & Financial Separation

Our editorial judgments remain strictly sovereign, independent, and incorruptible:

  • Zero Commercial Placements: We do not publish sponsored content, native advertising, paid editorial features, or commercial advertorials in any form.
  • Patron Separation: Reader patronage and voluntary donations sustain the platform's infrastructure and independence, but confer no editorial control, governance rights, or guaranteed publication. For more details, consult our Support & Patronage charter.
  • Separation of Business and Curation: Editorial evaluations proceed solely upon literary quality, intellectual honesty, and artistic merit, without regard to commercial considerations or social media metrics.

3. Curation Standards by Editorial Room

Every piece accepted for publication must demonstrate intentional craft, clarity of expression, and depth of insight within our three curated rooms:

The Prose (Essays & Cultural Critique)

We curate essays that resist superficial takes and cultivate deep perspective. We prioritize writing that engages philosophical traditions (including Indian knowledge systems, Vedantic inquiry, and classical humanism), pedagogical reform, the psychology of authority, and the nature of individual freedom. Arguments must be disciplined, lucid, and rigorously reasoned.

The Verses (Poetry)

We publish lyrical, reflective, and emotionally unflinching verse. We look for poetry that captures subtle states of being—solitude, love, transience, silent observation, and the existential weight of living—with rhythmic intentionality and fresh figurative language.

The Tales (Short Fiction)

We seek short narrative fiction that examines the human interior. We favor character-driven literature that explores moral tension, interpersonal consequence, psychological complexity, and the quiet crises of modern and perennial life.

4. Authorship, Pseudonyms & Byline Sovereignty

We honor the creator behind the work:

  • Moral and Legal Rights: Contributing writers retain full moral and intellectual copyright in their works under Section 57 of the Indian Copyright Act, 1957, as codified in our Submission Guidelines and Contributor Agreements.
  • Pseudonyms and Anonymity: We recognize that rigorous philosophical critique and intimate personal literature sometimes require authorial discretion. Writers may publish under a chosen pen name or pseudonym, provided their true legal identity is verified with our editorial desk for administrative and licensing records.
  • Editorial Respect: Our editors view editing as a supportive dialogue. Line edits, headline adjustments, and stylistic polishing are conducted with the author's knowledge and approval. We do not alter an author's core thesis, voice, or philosophical stance.

5. Factual Accuracy, Citations & Intellectual Honesty

Intellectual credibility is paramount to enduring literature:

  • Veracity and Primary Sources: Authors are expected to ensure factual accuracy in historical references, scientific citations, and textual quotations. When translating or quoting classical texts, sources should be clearly identified.
  • No Plagiarism or Fabrication: Submissions must be original. Plagiarism, uncredited appropriation, fabricated citations, or simulated quotations result in immediate rejection or retraction.
  • Ethical Citation: Quotes from other scholars, poets, and authors must fall within legitimate fair dealing under Section 52 of the Indian Copyright Act, 1957, with explicit and respectful attribution.

6. AI & Machine Generation Standards

Dendra Folio is an unyielding sanctuary for authentic human consciousness:

  • Strict Prohibition: We do not publish literature substantially composed, generated, or rewritten by artificial intelligence models. Every sentence must embody authentic human voice, lived experience, and critical care.
  • Full Transparency: Any assistive use of digital tools for research synthesis, spellchecking, or accessibility must conform strictly to our published AI Policy.
  • Manuscript Sanctity: We respect the confidentiality of our contributors. The editorial desk never uploads an author's unpublished manuscript, draft, or correspondence to third-party AI models or cloud ingestion systems.

For complete transparency regarding our own use of AI-assisted tools in website development, technical maintenance, and administrative drafting, please see our AI Policy.

7. Corrections, Retractions & Archival Record

We take responsibility for errors with promptness and transparency:

  • Typographical and Minor Corrections: Clear typographical or formatting errors are corrected immediately in the digital text without disrupting the reading experience.
  • Substantive Factual Corrections: If an error of fact, translation, or significant context is brought to our attention and verified, we correct the text and append a concise, dated Editorial Correction note at the base of the piece.
  • Retractions and Removal: If a published work is found to have breached our ethical policies (e.g., through uncredited plagiarism, copyright infringement, or deceptive AI generation), Dendra Folio retracts the piece. To preserve the integrity of our Master Article Register, the assigned permanent Article ID (e.g. DF-PRS-0001) is retired and never reassigned to another work.

8. Viewpoint Freedom & Civil Dialogue

Dendra Folio does not maintain an institutional orthodoxy, political ideology, or sectarian dogma. We value heterodox perspectives, earnest debate, and deep disagreements conducted with civility and intellectual rigor.

The perspectives, sentiments, and philosophical arguments expressed in individual essays, poems, and fiction belong exclusively to their respective authors and do not necessarily reflect the personal views of the editor or Dendra Folio as an institution.
