Our Editorial Vision
Dendra Folio welcomes original essays, poetry, and narrative fiction that embody intellectual rigor, depth of feeling, and literary care. We look for pieces crafted with a distinctive personal voice—work that resists algorithmic urgency and seeks instead to linger in the reader's consciousness.
Every piece submitted undergoes careful editorial review. While submission does not guarantee acceptance, every manuscript is received with appreciation for the labor of the writer.
Editorial Standards & Policy: Before submitting your manuscript, please review our comprehensive Editorial Policy. It details our curation principles across Prose, Verses, and Tales, our stance on byline sovereignty and pseudonyms, ethical attribution, and our commitment never to upload contributor manuscripts into external AI systems.
The Three Rooms We Curate
Our publication is organized into three distinct editorial rooms:
1. The Prose (Essays & Cultural Critique)
Disciplined inquiry, philosophical depth, and cultural analysis. We seek essays that question conventional assumptions, explore Indian and global knowledge traditions, examine educational reform, deconstruct the psychology of power, or investigate the human search for freedom.
- Target Length: 1,200 to 8,000 words.
- Tone: Rigorous yet readable, contemplative, clear, and intellectually honest.
2. The Verses (Poetry)
Intimate, lyrical, and unflinching verse. We publish poems that capture the subtle nuances of solitude, love, existential longing, beauty, and silence.
- Submission Packet: Up to 1 to 3 poems in a single document.
- Form: Open to both formal and free verse that demonstrates intentional rhythm, imagery, and emotional resonance.
3. The Tales (Short Fiction)
Compelling literary and psychological fiction. Stories that probe the human interior—examining moral consequence, hidden motives, quiet conflicts, and the complexities of human connection.
- Target Length: You are the author, you decide.
- Tone: Character-driven, evocative prose with strong narrative tension.
Submission Requirements & Warranties
- Originality: All submitted work must be original to the author. If your piece incorporates third-party quotations, translations, or historical excerpts, you must hold the necessary permissions or fall strictly under the doctrine of fair dealing under Section 52 of the Indian Copyright Act, 1957.
- Simultaneous Submissions: We permit simultaneous submissions. If your piece is accepted by another publication prior to formal acceptance by Dendra Folio, you must notify our editors immediately so it can be withdrawn.
- Prior Publication: Please state clearly whether the piece has appeared previously anywhere in print or online (including on personal Substacks, Medium, or blogs). We give primary priority to unpublished original writing.
- AI Policy Compliance: In accordance with our Editorial Policy and AI Policy, we do not accept work substantially written, generated, or rewritten by artificial intelligence. Any material assistive research or translation use must be transparently disclosed upon submission.
Publication Terms & Licensing
Before any accepted piece is published, the writer signs our standard Contributor Agreement:
- Copyright Stays With You: You retain full moral and intellectual copyright ownership of your work under Section 57 of the Indian Copyright Act, 1957. Dendra Folio receives an exclusive digital publication license for the initial period.
- First Twelve Months Exclusivity: For the first twelve (12) consecutive months following publication, the work may not be licensed or published by other online editorial magazines or journals. However, you remain completely free to:
